Yearly, the people of Helsinki Metropolitan Area are treated to dozens of film festivals and clubs. In addition to noted festivals such as HELSINKI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL – LOVE & ANARCHY, DOCPOINT – HELSINKI DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL and ESPOO CINÉ INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, independent festivals dedicated to political cinema, dance films, horror, animation and gay and lesbian films, just to mention a few, are held in the Capital Region. There are also separate festivals for Finnish, European, Latin American and African cinema, and laid-back film clubs with monthly screenings to add to the repertoire.

These events bring the pearls of contemporary cinema on big screens. Many of them, despite international stir and acclaim, would not otherwise reach large audiences in Finland. Often the festival programme also includes different side events with art, music, visiting filmmakers, and workshops.

CINEMANIA is your guide to the wide ranging film festivals and events in the Capital Region. Check out the events and like CINEMANIA on Facebook. The printed CINEMANIA guide is in free distribution in libraries, bars and cultural venues around Helsinki. Love, hate and enjoy the world of alternative cinema with us!

CINEMANIA guide is published by Film events in Helsinki Region CINEMAJA ry, an association the aim of which is to lobby and supervise the shared interests of film event organisers in the Capital Region and promote collaboration between its members and improve the common and organisational premise to arrange these kinds of events around Helsinki Metropolitan Area.

Film events arranged in the Capital Region can gain membership of the association. Supporting membership can be granted to individuals and communities, who are willing to support the association’s goals and activities.
